About Me
My name is Abel Black, and I’m a senior at Boston College studying Marketing and Film Studies. I grew up in Angleton, Texas, just outside of Houston, alongside my twin brother and two older sisters. Growing up in a big family taught me how to collaborate, compete, and show up for the people around me. From an early age, I was drawn to both creativity and discipline, a balance that still defines how I approach my work today.
Outside of film, I’m a competitive swimmer on Boston College’s varsity swim team, specializing in backstroke. Athletics have shaped my work ethic, resilience, and ability to thrive under pressure. Whether I’m in the pool, behind a camera, or collaborating with a team, I’m motivated by the same goal: to make work that connects with people and leaves them feeling something. I’m always excited to learn, experiment, and take creative risks.
Filmmaking became my way of making sense of the world. I’m fascinated by stories that feel human, slightly messy, and honest, whether they’re carefully planned or completely improvised. I love experimenting with tone, pacing, and structure, and I’m especially drawn to projects that blend humor with sincerity. Along the way, I’ve also developed interests in music, writing, and travel, all of which influence how I think about storytelling and visual style.

Athletics
I have been swimming competitively for over 13 years, primarily specializing in backstroke. I currently compete on Boston College’s varsity swim team and was part of the ACC Championship team in 2025. Swimming has shaped my discipline, time management, and ability to perform under pressure.
In addition to collegiate athletics, I’ve had success through USA Swimming and have remained deeply connected to sports outside the pool. I also play beach volleyball with my twin brother, which has become one of my favorite ways to compete, stay active, and spend time together.
Athletics continue to influence how I approach creative work, pushing me to stay consistent, resilient, and open to growth.
Hobbies
Outside of school and athletics, I’m constantly chasing new experiences. I love snowboarding, traveling, and spending time outdoors whenever I can. Filmmaking remains my favorite creative outlet, whether I’m working on a structured project or experimenting with something spontaneous.
I also enjoy music, writing, and hanging out with friends, especially when those moments turn into stories worth telling. These interests fuel my creativity and often find their way into my work, even when I’m not consciously trying.
